April 23rd is National Picnic Day! So if you’re ready to have some Spring fun with the family, just grab your picnic basket and head to one of the OKC Metro’s BEST Parks for Picnics to spread your blanket and share a meal!
The Basics…
First off, you are going to need a picnic basket. Yes, a basket. Some people use canvas bags, but in my book nothing feels like a good picnic without a basket!
You’ll probably need a small ice chest as well just in case you need ice or need some of your food really cold. I’m a bit more of a survivalist when it comes to picnicking and skip the ice chest. Who ever heard of ice in your wine??
Next, you’ll need basic utensils, like forks, knives, spoons, cups and plates. Oh, and don’t forget the bottle opener! But I almost forgot the FOUNDATION of any good picnic….the blanket. make sure to get a go lightweight, yet durable blanket. The size really depends on how many family or friends are joining you for the FABULOUS picnic.
Lastly, the food of course. I usually like to bring finger food like sandwiches, fruit and maybe some chips or nuts. Oh and pack extra napkins/paper towels. You can never have enough of those. And the final thing I always try to remember is a little trash bag so I don’t have to haul back home any of the picked remains.
Now, some people opt to bring chairs, but I keep it simple and sit on the grass or that magical blanket I mentioned earlier.
